LED lights are a good addition to step areas. They provide sufficient lighting so you can navigate safely in the dark, yet they are soft enough so they won’t disturb anyone.
I ran a pair of twisted 16 gauge wires from an empty circuit breaker on my breaker panel. I then placed 2 of these lights in the forward steps, and one in the galley steps. I ran the wires through the side of the engine room and up through the side of the steps. Wiring was very simple, and again, easy to do. Just be sure to twist the wires to prevent interference with your navigation electronics.
